Cuando "que" no es "that"

 

La palabra "que" corresponde muchas veces a "that," pero en los casos de comparacion, se usa "than."

Spanish: Es importante que estemos alli.
English: It's important that we be there. (It's important for us to be there)


Spanish: El email dice que debemos llegar a las 8.
English: The email says that we should arrive at 8.

Spanish: Es necesario que le digas la verdad.
English: It's necessary that you tell him the truth.


Spanish: Yo hago de natacion mas a menudo que tu
English: I go swimming more often than you.

Spanish: Mas de 100 cartas
English: More than 100 letters

Spanish: Mi padre es mas sentimental que mi madre.
English: My father is more sentimental than my mother.

Spanish: Mi hermano es mas flaco que yo.
English: My brother is skinnier than I.

En otro caso, la construccion usando "que" de voluntad corresponde a una construccion distinta.

Spanish: Quiero que sepas
English: I want you to know.

Spanish: Quiero que vengas
English: I want you to come.

Spanish: Queremos que vayas
English: We want you to go

Spanish: Te están pidiendo que hables en la conferencia.
English: They are asking you to speak at the conference
